Project management ensured digital boost

With effective project management, A-2 delivered a stable, future-proof web shop that strengthens Maxi Zoo's digital customer journey.

Background

Situation

Maxi Zoo is Denmark's largest retail chain for pets. For a long time, Maxi Zoo had focused on developing its physical stores, while its online presence no longer met customer expectations and did not support the company's omnichannel strategy. Maxi Zoo was facing a major update of its commercial systems, which, among other things, would ensure that the webshop could support future growth and a modern customer journey. 

Challenge 

The project had to be completed within a short timeframe and included requirements specification, partner selection, and implementation of a new web shop. There were high demands on the speed and precision of the project — and on ensuring technical integration with existing business systems. 

Purpose

Maxi Zoo wanted a new webshop that was more stable, scalable, and future-proof—both technically and commercially. The solution had to ensure high performance, be easy to maintain, and form the basis for further omnichannel development. 

From start to finish, A-2 has delivered strong project management, created a clear structure, and ensured progress in a complex project with many moving parts. Their ability to coordinate between internal and external parties, keep track of time, quality, and finances—while maintaining an overview—has been crucial to the project's success.

Approach & Results

A-2 took on the role of project manager from start to finish and created a clear structure and momentum in all phases of the project. First, an intensive requirements specification phase and partner selection were carried out. Next, A-2 managed the development and implementation phase with close coordination between suppliers, internal IT, and business units. The role included planning, follow-up, risk management, and a focus on keeping time, quality, and finances on track.

During the most intense periods of the project, additional resources were allocated to assist Maxi Zoo with configuration, setup, testing, quality assurance, and content creation, among other things.

Just three and a half months after the project kickoff, Maxi Zoo was able to welcome customers to its new webshop. The go-live process went very smoothly, and after a week, the hypercare period and the project were completed, and the webshop was handed over to normal operation.

Maxi Zoo now had a new online foundation and, still in collaboration with A-2, could continue the expansion with additional functionality to ensure the customer's omnichannel experience and its own growth journey.
