Background

Situation

Magasin du Nord operates seven department stores in Denmark and one of the country's most visited online stores. With an increasing proportion of customers shopping via mobile devices, Magasin wanted to modernize its digital platform. The existing solution was an older and highly customized online store that no longer met today's requirements for mobile friendliness and scalability. 

The challenge 

The project involved a comprehensive system replacement and integration. The existing web shop had to be replaced with a standard Salesforce platform, while ensuring the business's many integrations with ERP, CRM, and PIM systems. At the same time, the new setup had to meet modern requirements for speed, user-friendliness, and, in particular, mobile optimization.

Purpose

Magasin wanted to enhance the online customer experience with a new mobile-first platform and ensure a robust and future-proof architecture that could handle both existing and new business requirements in Denmark and Sweden. 

We needed a project manager with a management approach rather than a technical approach, as we already have the technical skills ourselves. A-2 provided a senior project manager with the necessary overview and no-nonsense approach to the project and its challenges.

Approach & Results

Working closely with Magasin, A-2 drew up detailed requirements specifications and a clear definition of the scope of the project. The consultants facilitated the selection process for the development supplier and took on the role of project manager for the entire implementation. A-2 ensured close coordination between Magasin's internal teams and external suppliers – both during development, integration, and the subsequent hypercare period. 

Results & impact

The new webshop and associated Order Management System were launched in both Denmark and Sweden in September 2020. Magasin now has a modern, mobile-optimized solution that combines attractive design with robust integration with key business systems. The platform now supports both high operational reliability and an improved customer experience across devices.
